About Us

Our outreach location in Ensenada is the newest addition our YWAM San Diego/Baja family. Located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, this 30 room complex houses our annual Discipleship Training School as well as our Homes of Hope and Mission Adventures programs. Over 30 staff members from four nations serve full time at this location. Since 1998, when the permanent outreach center was purchased, major structural and artistic renovations have transformed an unfinished hotel into a beautiful ministry and outreach center.

Fifteen years ago we identified a building in the Playas section of Tijuana that we could use for a new ministry center. After many months of hard work and basic renovations, the old 6,000 square foot building was ready for use. This new center would house six to eight full time staff, offices, dining room, and a meeting hall. Dorm housing for about 60 youth was constructed as well.

When we began there were no shower rooms, kitchen, or even any walls. Everything had to be built and developed. We quickly ran out of money to finish the renovations. A long 12' roll of black felt was found along the highway and we used it to cover the walls because we could not afford to buy the needed sheetrock.

Over the next few years the ministry grew but not without some struggles and pain. Additional rental buildings were added but urban area we were in did not suite our future growth needs, it was time to move. As we begin to embrace the new picture of what God is showing us it feels like our old wineskin is about to burst. The physical container of the work of God in YWAM Tijuana no longer is adequate. We are joyfully looking forward to the day when the new wineskin is ready.

YWAM has an office and warehouse in San Diego, which serves as the coordinating center for the entire ministry. The staff at this location serve in administrative roles, doing a lot of the "behind the scenes" work so the outreach centers in Tijuana and Ensenada can focus their efforts on our in-the-field ministries. The Mission Adventures International office is also located at this campus.
